Metal Fans Embrace Avenged Sevenfold

Posted on Nov 15, 2008 || Filed Under A7X News || Leave a comment?

GRAND RAPIDS—Can metal fans and “regular” rock fans co-exist?

That’s a gamble that seems to be paying off for metal Avenged Sevenfold, sharing headlining duties on a tour with Buckcherry, perhaps a more rock-radio-friendly act.

That results in what Avenged Sevenfold drummer Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan described as an unexpected mix—fans geeked about one of the acts and maybe tentatively into the other, but a larger crowd, regardless.

“This is an interesting lineup. There’s a lot of straight-up rock fans mixed with a lot of metal fans, so it’s an interesting mix,” said Sullivan, reached before a show in Milwaukee. “Our fans all over are pretty diehard about us. I think we have one of the best fan bases in the world. That’s mainly what I’ve noticed.”

Album recalls ’80s
Avenged Sevenfold has been touring relentlessly to promote its self-titled fourth album, a stylistically ambitious collection of sprawling metal songs that recall the 1980s heyday of Iron Maiden and early Metallica.

The band—also consisting of singer M. Shadows, guitarists Zacky Vengeance and Synyster Gates, and bass player Johnny Christ—also just released a live DVD and collection of B-sides from the “Avenged Sevenfold” recording sessions.

On the 10 songs that made the album, there are nods to country and Queen-style pomp that prompted the usual cries of “sellout!” upon its initial release. (The band jumped to the majors on 2005’s gold-selling “City of Evil.”) But Sullivan said he’s seen the new record grow on fans during the past year.

“The first couple of months when you release an album, the crowds don’t know the songs quite as well, so the shows get better after a few months,” he said.

On the road again
A solid year on the road can run a band ragged, but Avenged Sevenfold is known for its vigorous dedication to touring (and, according to reputation, partying).

After another six weeks or so with Buckcherry, Avenged Sevenfold, A7X in shorthand, will do some more touring on its own. Sullivan said once the band has hit each city twice behind a given album, enough is enough.

“Luckily, there’s enough cities in the world where we get to do it for extensive amounts of time. We love being on the road. I get really bored if I’m home for too long or in one spot for too long,” he said. “Touring is more fun, but the act of creating music that people love is also very satisfying.”

That said, the band has given some, but not too much, thought to how to properly follow up a project as ambitious as “Avenged Sevenfold.”

“We’ve thought about doing a concept album,” Sullivan said. “We’ve thought about shredding a little more, getting back to faster stuff. It’s just going to come down to whatever we feel like writing at the time.”

Back.. With A Vengeance

So It Looks Like The Site JournalStar AKA Pjstar.com Got to get a Q And A Session With Synyster Gates.
So I Take No Credit To This Interview!
Enjoy!
• Q • Your dad is Guitar Guy, who recently came through the Peoria Civic Center as the opening act for comedian Jeff Dunham. I assume that means you grew up in a musical family.

• A • Yeah, absolutely. Before he was Guitar Guy, he was Brian Haner (laughs), and he used to play with a lot of crazy (people) like Tower of Power, a lot of ’70s R&B bands like Rose Royce, a bunch of different people. So he was always gone, and when he was home he was playing guitar.

• Q • How old were you when you started playing?

• A • I don’t know. I think I was maybe 9 or something like that, but didn’t get serious until I was about 11.

• Q • And you were just about out of high school when you recorded your first album with Avenged Sevenfold. How has your life changed since those garage band days?

• A • It’s very much the same. Well, actually, it’s very much different, but it feels the same. I really pride myself that my band has not changed. We’re still the same group of guys that goes home and has dinner together and gets drunk together and does the same stuff. When we bought houses, our nice, big houses, we still moved them close to Mom’s house. Mentally, we’re the same, it’s just what we do for a living.

• Q • How do your first couple of albums differ from what you have out right now? I understand that for your current album, you incorporated elements that you liked from country music and even hip-hop.

• A • We just got way better. (Laughs). And we decided we didn’t want to pigeonhole ourselves. If you regurgitate the same stuff … you can’t keep cloning something and expect it to be as good. So when you get to explore different types of music, the crazier, the better.

I think all of our personalities in the band are pretty, I don’t know, maybe eccentric, in a way—just a little bit out there. So I really like everybody’s take on different genres. When we do hip-hop, it’s not going to sound like hip-hop, it’s going to sound like a really screwed-up version of it. But I’m definitely in love with our approach to writing country and hip-hop, whatever it is.

• Q • Are you working on any new projects right now?

• A • We’re just focusing on the tour. We do our best when we’re just 110 percent focused on the task at hand. And right now we’re just excited about getting back to the U.S. and focusing on these shows.

• Q • You had to postpone a few shows earlier this fall because M. Shadows had some vocal problems. Is he doing better now?

• A • Yeah, he’s doing wonderfully. We were just traveling a lot; it was really tough on everybody. But you can prop (other band members) up with a stick if we’re too hung over or we’re missing a limb or something. But it’s not the same with him; he has to be in really good health. He just got a little tired—we were doing 20-hour flights with three days in between all of them, so it was very, very tough on everybody. And it really affected him.

I’ve never heard the man not be able to talk. We actually flew out to do the gig knowing there were some underlying problems. He made it through the first show and was a bad (expletive) about it, but woke up the next morning and couldn’t physically talk. So he pushed himself way too far and went home and he was really, really rough for a couple of days. And his vocal coach and his doctors and different people prescribed him four weeks of vocal rest, so he walked around with a chalkboard—couldn’t talk and couldn’t do anything—and he would write letters to us.

• Q • Anything you want to say about your upcoming show?

• A • Can’t wait to see everybody; it’ll be fun. And we hope everybody has a good time.

Note : Sorry For Not Updating That Much, ive been so busy i dont even have time for the computer! But Enjoy This Q And A!
Remember : I Take No Credit For This!
Enjoy The Last Of Your Weekend!

No, he’s not afraid of zombies

Avenged Sevenfold is a band that sort of invokes Halloween feelings all year round—but we still wanted to know some holiday-specific questions. Straight-shooter Zacky Vengeance give us the image of himself as a wee pumpkin and… well, some other stuff.

Buzznet: What is the stupidest couple costume?

Zacky: Democrats and Republicans, can’t get any dumber then that. Some political costume

Buzznet: What do you think the most overrated costume will be for Halloween ‘08?

Zacky: Sarah Palin

Buzznet: What is your scariest Halloween memory?

Zacky: The clean up the day after I threw a party 2 years ago.

Buzznet: What is the best costume you had as a kid?

Zacky: A big orange pumpkin with a little green hat.

Buzznet: If you’re too old to trick-or-treat what do you recommend doing on Halloween?

Zacky: Drugs, booze and chicks

Buzznet: What will you be doing on Halloween this year?

Zacky: Handing out candy to little kids

Buzznet: Best movie to watch on Halloween?

Zacky: “House of 1000 Corpses”

Buzznet: If this Halloween turns into a Zombie Apocalypse, how would you survive?

Zacky: A brisk walk should do the trick, possibly a jog

Buzznet: Favorite candy?

Zacky: Sour patch kids

Zacky V. Birthday Project 2008

Posted on Oct 23, 2008 || Filed Under Other || 2 comments.

I know we’re still on October, but the earlier we start with this, the earlier we finish this – and we sure want it to be perfect!

What I am talking about?!

Well, Zacky will turn 27 on December 11 and A7X will perform in Montréal – Canada on December 16. Turbo Girl is a photographer who works for a magazine, so she will definitely meet the guys after the gig. What if she had a birthday gift for our “Little” Zacky? We reflected on that and concluded that it would be cute if we ALL wished him a Happy Birthday, don’t you think?

We though about making some sort of a collection of Happy Birthday wishes, and everyone’s help will be awesome! Let’s impress Zacky with our love, shall we? =)

So, every person that wants to collaborate with us, has to ponder about the best Happy Birthday Wishes ever and write it down (the maximum accepted will be one typed page, following this format: type Georgia, size 11, double space between the lines).

You can also contribute with many possible extras:
Pictures of Zacky performing
Pictures of you with Zacky
Banners (which must include your signature for copyright)
Drawings (if you don’t draw, don’t steal!)
(preferably short) poems

How much do you like this idea?!

Well, PM us through the website to any more details that you need or to any questions that you might have, or e-mail us directly your contribution to Zacky’s gift, so that we can keep it safe with us.

All contributions must arrive until November 20 2008! So that we can have time to organize all that material into a proper book =)

Once it is finished it will be photographed.

Once Zacky sees it, the moment will be properly recorded so that we can share with you what our idea has provoked on Zacky! XD

Our e-mail addresses are:
GREEN_APPLE: jwnazare@gmail.com
TURBO GIRL: bebe____69@hotmail.com

Hoping that you want to collaborate with us to surprise Zacky,

*Green_Apple* and Turbo Girl

Here’s the info that I promised I would post.
